Instructions & Application

For those wavy and curly girls who don't have enough time to do a full hair washing routine in the morning, you are not alone. Being able to wash and style hair at night is a great skill to have to speed up the morning, as sometimes it seems almost impossible to successfully pull off any style other than a bun. If showering in the morning isn't an option for definition, you can still get your freshest, best curls with this step-by-step guide.

STARTS WITH A LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER

When styling wavy and curly hair at night, use about twice as much leave-in as you would normally use in the morning. I've noticed that my hair loses more moisture overnight, and without the extra conditioner, it tends to be more frizzy the next day. My current favorite leave-in is ApHogee Curlific! Moisture Rich Leave-in as it leaves my hair super soft and moisturized without making it look flat or weighed down.
LEAVE YOUR HAIR DOWN FOR 30 MINUTES TO ONE HOUR.
This allows the hair to dry a little so you don't leave the door with super wet hair. If you're short on time, now would be a good time to diffuse until your hair is about 50% dry to achieve almost the same result as you would get by plopping for 30 minutes to an hour. However, this results in more frizz when I go this route as it strips more moisture.

APPLY YOUR FAVORITE HOLD STYLING GEL!

I emphasize using medium hold at most, as you don't want your hair to harden into the shape of your head against a pillow from the night before (or your pineapple). This means your curls cannot return to their natural curl shape the next morning. My favorite product for this is Kinky Curly Curling Custard as it provides enough hold to give me great waves and curls but at the same time doesn't cause any crunch.
